Reverse Parade, Forward to Christmas

The streets of Downtown Washington were lined with Christmas floats Friday evening, Nov. 27, but this year it was the spectators who were on the move. Instead of its usual Holiday Parade of Lights, Downtown Washington Inc. organized a Reverse Parade, where floats were staged on parking lots along Main, Second, Lafayette and Oak streets, and people could drive by to view them. It was a way to celebrate the holiday safety, the group’s website noted. The event drew a good crowd, and there was a bit of a traffic jam as cars lined up to drive-thru the display and wave at Santa and Mrs. Claus.

If you missed the parade or just want to see some of the floats again, award-winning photojournalist Jeanne Miller Wood captured these images. Find her on Instagram at JMW180.
